Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings . . . for they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.  (Proverbs 4:20-22 ESV)

Balancing the Energy Field With The Lord’s Prayer

The following is a “beginner level” exercise that can help to balance the body’s energy field through a guided prayer and meditation of The Lord’s Prayer.

For best results, this exercise should be done while sitting on a flat surface. You can either sit straight up with your legs crossed (Indian style), or lean your back against something with your legs out in front of you. Either way, your back should be straight, your shoulders back, and your whole body relaxed but with good posture.

Since much of this exercise requires you to close your eyes and spend time in focused meditation, it typically works best to read through an entire step before you start on that section, then, once you have a clear understanding of what you will be doing you can close your eyes and proceed with the exercise.

Before You Get Started

When working directly with the chakras to balance the body’s energy field it is always best to to work with all of the chakras in order and to complete the entire exercise all in one sitting. This being the case, you should always try to conduct the exercises at a place and time where you are not likely to be interrupted. You should expect this exercise to take a minimum of 30 minutes. Make it a goal to spend at least 3-5 minutes per step. More would be even better.

Depending on the condition of the different chakras and how balance or in balanced the energy is in that particular area of your body, some regions of the body may require more or less time than others. If this is your first time performing the exercise you may not necessarily be able to feel the condition of the energy flow, but over time, with practice, you should be able to learn how to recognize when the energy is well balanced and when it is still in need of more work. Until then, concentrate on your thought process and try to keep your mind focused and concentrated for at least 3-5 minutes on each chakra, and try to increase this over time until you are able to stay focused and concentrated on each step of this exercise for at least 8-10 minutes.

Before you begin, make sure that you are seated on a flat surface and observing good posture. In order to insure that you have the best possible experience and reap the greatest possible results, be sure to drink lots of water before you begin and keep a water bottle close by in order to drink more in between each step of the exercise. Having your body well hydrated will really do a lot in helping your mind to be able to concentrate better and function with optimum performance.

It is also important to practice deep breathing all throughout the exercise. You should try to practice slow, deep breathing which breathes through the diaphragm and not the chest. Breathing from the diaphragm should cause your stomach to rise and fall and create very little motion in your chest and shoulders. Proper breathing not only helps to supply oxygen to your body and your mind, but it also helps to cleanse the chakras and encourages the energy of the body to flow with a consistent, rhythmic motion. For best results, you should try to breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.

If you not accustomed to breathing this way, you find it hard to practice this deep breathing without having it distract you from the mental exercises. If this is the case, I would suggest that you just take several slow, deep breaths in between each of the steps of this exercise and just resign yourself to breathing however you normally do during each step in order to be fully concentrated on the mental exercise. While breathing correctly is a very important part of managing energy flow, it should not be something that distracts you from the exercises. Better to perform the exercises without the deep breathing than to be distracted from the exercises by your efforts to breathe deeply.

If you end up conducting these exercise without the deep breathing I would encourage you to take some time later on to focus on and practice the deep breathing. Try to practice it often enough so that it can start to feel very natural to you so that the next time you conduct energy field exercises you will be able to incorporate the deep breathing into the exercises without it being any kind of a distraction to you.

Step 1: The Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is located at the very top of the head, where a baby’s fontanel (or soft spot) is located. For the exercise to work you need to mentally concentrate on this area of the body, so place your hands, one over the other, on this location and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Crown Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

Next, take a moment to think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Crown Chakra is energy that helps a person in their awareness of God and who they are in relation to God.

As you begin praying The Lord’s Prayer, focus your mind on God and who He is. Think about your own identity in relation to God and about the fact that you are nothing apart from God.

Now speak these word out-lout: “Our Father”

Think about the fact that God is YOUR Father. Through the saving work of Jesus Christ you have been adopted into God’s family and you are a child of God.

Slowly repeat the words again: "Our Father. . ."

Take your time to slowly repeat these two words over and over again, out-loud, as you allow your mind to think about what these words really tell you about your relationship with God.

Remember to breath. Slow deep, breaths can really help to carry a fresh supply of oxygen to your brain which will really help it in its work of trying to stay focused and concentrated. Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth is the best way to perform deep breathing, but only do this if you are able to keep this up without having it distract you from the phrase that you are meditating on.

Now take a moment to break up the words in this phrase and focus on each word individually: "Our" and "Father".  Say these words slowly, but repeatedly, over and over again in your mind, thinking very intentionally about what each of these words means to you both individually and together.

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step, but really take the time to meditate on these words and on any Scriptural truths and promises that come to your mind in association with them.

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Crown Chakra in combination with thoughts about God and who you are in your relationship with Him is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

The process of balancing this energy cannot be rushed, so be patient and continue meditating on this particular phrase in The Lord’s Prayer for as long as you are able to keep your mind concentrated and focused. When you find yourself becoming too distracted and find that your mind is starting to move on to other thoughts and is no longer staying focused on this step of the exercise, then just take a couple deep breaths, maybe drink a little water, and move on to the next step.

Step 2: The Intuitive Chakra

The Intuitive Chakra is located at the center of the forehead, just above the point between your eyebrows. Place your hands, one over the other, on this location of your forehead and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Intuitive Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Intuitive Chakra encourages a person to dream and helps them to believe or hope in things that are unseen.

Use that energy now to dream about Heaven and picture it in your mind as you meditate on the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer and say these word out-loud:

“Our Father who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . . “

Take your time to think about what you know of Heaven from the Scriptures and try to picture it as best you can in your mind. Most especially try to envision God, your Father, seated on His Heavenly throne in all His glory and majesty.

“Our Father who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . .” continue to slowly repeat this phrase and over and over again, out-loud.

Think about how the Scriptures tell us that you are seated with Christ in the Heavenly places, which means that even though Heaven is in another realm that cannot be seen with your physical eyes, still, through Christ, you are with Him in Heaven as a child of our Heavenly Father.

Repeat the words over and over again trying to really grasp the depth of their meaning:

"Our Father who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . . who is in Heaven . . ."

Remember to breath. Slow, deep breaths. Preferably breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, but only if you can do this without it distracting you from the words that you are meditating on.

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step, but really take the time to meditate on these words and to try and picture Heaven in as much detail as you possibly can.

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Intuitive Chakra in combination with trying to visualize Heaven in your mind is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

Step 3: The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is located at the base of your throat in the “V” of the collarbone. Place your hands, one over the other, on this location and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Throat Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Throat Chakra is used to express yourself and to speak truth and receptive and discerning of that which is true.

One truth that is worth expressing is the holiness of God’s name. Keep this in mind as you meditate on the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer: “Holy is Your name!”

Take a moment to meditate on the fact that there is no truth apart from Christ – Jesus is truth. Consider also how God the Father has established the name of Jesus to be above all other names. Think of these things as you continue to repeat this phrase in praise and adoration: "Holy is Your Name!"

Remember to breath as you slowly repeat these word over and over again, out-loud: “Holy is Your Name!”

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step, but really take the time to meditate on these words and on any Scriptural truths and promises that come to your mind in association with them.

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Throat Chakra in combination with speaking and believing this basic truth about God is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

Step 4: The Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra is located at the center of the chest, level with your heart. Place your hands, one over the other, on this location and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Heart Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

This chakra, even more than the others, has a flow of energy that can be felt. Take a moment to concentrate on the energy and to take notice of any physical sensations you may feel as you envision energy flowing through this part of the body. The sensations from feeling this energy flow is often described of as a warmth or a kind of pressure in the chest area. Sometimes it can feel like chills or a pounding in your chest. You may also experience some dizziness or a feeling like a wave of energy is rushing up towards your head. Or you may not feel a whole lot of anything, and that’s okay too. Whatever you feel, or don’t feel, just try to stay focused on this area of the body for a moment and try to imagine the energy flowing through this Heart Chakra.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Heart Chakra enables a person to give and receive love in a healthy way. Remember that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.

Now, out of your love for God and with the peace you can have in the acceptance of His love for you, speak the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer: “They will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Consider how Jesus said that if we truly love Him that we would do what He commands. With a surrendering heart, pray these words again: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Think about the second greatest commandment, to love others as we love ourselves, and acknowledge the fact that you need God's help to accomplish this. “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Repeat the words over and over again, trying to really feel this prayer in the depths of your heart.

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step, but really take the time to meditate on these words and on any Scriptural truths and promises that come to your mind in association with them.

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Heart Chakra in combination with really trying to feel the peace that comes with surrendering your will to God is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

The process of balancing this energy cannot be rushed, so be patient and continue meditating on this particular phrase in The Lord’s Prayer for as long as you are able to keep your mind concentrated and focused. When you find yourself becoming too distracted and find that your mind is starting to move on to other thoughts and is no longer staying focused on this step of the exercise, then just take a couple deep breathes, maybe drink a little water, and move on to the next step.

Step 5: The Navel Chakra

The Navel Chakra is located just a little above the navel, in the area of the diaphragm. Place your hands, one over the other, on this location and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Navel Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

The energy in this area of the body is one of the easier ones to feel, so take a moment to just concentrate on this area and to take note of any physical sensations you may feel as you envision energy flowing through this part of the body. You may feel a warm or cold sensation in this area, or you may feel a sense of fullness or heaviness in your abdomen. You may notice your breathing becoming deeper or even labored. You might even notice a sense of fluttering or slight nausea. Or you may not feel a whole lot of anything at all, and that’s okay too. Whatever you feel, or don’t feel, just try to stay focused on this area of the body for a moment and try to imagine the energy flowing through this Navel Chakra.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Navel Chakra enables a person to be confident and optimistic in life, as well as helping to regulate feelings of insecurity and anxiety.

You have no need for worry or doubt because God has promised to supply you with all that you need. Consider these things as you speak the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer: “Give us today our daily bread”.

Remember that God sees when a sparrow falls and that you are more valuable to Him than sparrows. Try to identify and surrender your worries to God as you repeat this phrase again: "Give us today our daily bread".

Think about the word “today” and “daily bread”. Take a moment to remember how Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow. Try to surrender to God your future and any anxieties you have about tomorrow as you pray once again: "Give us today our daily bread".

Slowly repeat the words over and over again, really taking the time to meditate on these words and on any Scriptural truths and promises that come to your mind in association with them: “Give us today our daily bread”.

Remember to breath as you continue repeating this phrase, out-loud. Try to feel at rest as you let go of anxiety and surrender your cares to God.

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Navel Chakra in combination with letting go of anxiety and resting in the promise of God’s provision is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step.

Step 6: The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located about two inches below the navel in the lower abdomen. Place your hands, one over the other, on this location and take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and through the Sacral Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

As you concentrate on this area of the body try to take note of any physical sensations you may feel as you envision energy flowing through this chakra. You may feel a kind of tingling sensation or a degree of warmth in this area. You may feel a sense of fullness or pressure in your abdomen or even in your lower back. Or you may not feel a whole lot of anything at all, and that’s okay too. Whatever you feel, or don’t feel, just try to stay focused on this area of the body for a moment and try to imagine the energy flowing through this Sacral Chakra.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Sacral Chakra encourages healthy relationships with the people around us. Consider these things as you meditate on the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer: “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.”

Consider the fact that the Sacral Chakra can open us up to greater intimacy but that sin creates a separation that hinders us from experiencing great intimacy with God. Ask for that intimacy to be restored as you confess your sins and pray this prayer: “Forgive us our sins as we forgive others who sin against us.”

Think about the reality that if you do not forgive others of their sins then your Father in Heaven will not forgive you of your sins. If you really want to be forgiven then you also need to forgive others. So ask God to help you uproot any unforgiveness in your heart as you pray these words: “Forgive us our sins as we forgive others who sin against us”.

Remember to breath as you slowly repeat this phrase again and again, really seeking to make it the cry of heart.

“Forgive us our sins as we forgive others who sin against us. . .”

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Sacrel Chakra in combination with letting go of past hurts and really pursuing forgiveness and restitution is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step.

Step 7: The Base Chakra

The Base Chakra is located between your legs at the base of the spine just between the genitals and the anus. Place your hands, one over the other, in this general area of the body. Your hands do not need to actually come in contact with your body to be effective in this exercise, so if you find it awkward or distracting to touch this particular location during the exercise you can just have your hands hover a few inches away from the body in this general area.

Take a moment to just think about the fact that energy is flowing through your hands and up along your spine through the Base Chakra. You can close your eyes while you are doing this and just take a moment to focus your attention on this area of the body and the energy that flows here.

Next, take a moment to close your eyes and think about the fact that the energy that flows through the Base Chakra influences the ability to feel safe, secure, and in control.

Think about the fact that God is almighty and all powerful and that because He is your Heavenly Father you have great protection and security in Him. Consider this as you meditate on the next phrase of The Lord’s Prayer: “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil”.

Consider for a moment the fact that our enemy, the devil, seeks to destroy us, but Jesus has conquered him so that we are no longer subject to him and no longer held captive by sin. Know for certain that you do not need to fall into any traps that the devil lays for you, because God will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear but will also provide you with a way out. When you are tempted, you have access the power of God in Christ Jesus to provide you with a way to escape the temptation and deliver you from sin, if only you will call out to Him for help.

“Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil”.

Remind yourself also that when you do fall short and stumble into sin you do not need to despair because Jesus has already paid the price and taken the penalty for your sin on the cross. The wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. So confess your sins to God and receive His forgiveness and the righteousness He offers you freely.

Remember to breath as you continue repeating this phrase out-loud over and over again. Try to really feel the depth of this prayer:

“Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. . .”

The mental practice of focusing your mind on both the specific location of the Base Chakra in combination with claiming your victorious standing in Christ is one of the best ways to exercise this particular chakra and to bring its energy back into balance.

Do not rush this exercise or be in too much of a hurry to proceed to the next step.

Step 8: Conclusion

Just as it is important to stretch and cool down after intense physical exercise, it is equally important to take some time to wind down after this mental exercise that has been working to bring your body’s energy back into balance.

To wind down after this intense mental exercise, return to the Crown Chakra at the top of the head by raising your hands up to Heaven and asking God to take control of all the different energies of your body in order to bring them into balance and restore the energy to flow the way that God intended it to.

Now just take a few minutes to praise Him, as you conclude The Lord's Prayer: “For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever! Amen!”

Again, do not rush this step or be in too much of a hurry to finish. Remember to take some deep breaths and to really think about the words that you are saying. Spend a moment just praising God through the concluding word of this prayer, and even repeat the phrase a few times in order to really give thought to what you are saying as you worship God through these words:

“For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever! Amen!”

Not Ready to Stop Yet?

If you really took your time and did this exercise well you should feel somewhat tired or mentally fatigued in the end. If that is the case, you’ve done well, and might want to consider giving yourself a rest, maybe allowing yourself to sleep or to go outside and enjoy a little fresh air. You may even feel hungry and feel the need to get a bite to eat. Whatever the case, do not think for a moment that because you were physically “inactive” that you have no reason to feel tired, this really is a strenuous exercise even if you were not physically active, and you have been working directly with the energy that gives your body its strength, so it is perfectly normal to expect your body to feel tired and low on energy after this kind of mental workout.

If, however, you finish this exercise and feel like you aren’t yet ready to be done, or you don’t really feel any noticeable difference and find yourself doubting whether it was really very effective or not, I would suggest the following:

1) Try going through and repeating the exercise again, going through the prayers once more and spending even more time meditating on each and every word in The Lord’s Prayer. Especially if you are new to the discipline of meditation you may need to practice in order to train your mind to focus and concentrate for longer periods of time.

2) Go through each of the chakras and just pray specifically for that particular energy, starting with the Crown Chakra and making your way down to the Base Chakra. An example prayer you can use would go something like this:

“Father, you know that I have not used this energy in the way that you intended for it to be used. I am sorry for abusing the energy that you have given me and for the ways in which I have used the energy for harm instead of good, for fear instead of love, for selfish ambitions instead of selfless service to you and others around me. Forgive me for misusing this particular energy and please bring the energy back into balance and teach me how to better use it for your glory!”

3) If your main problem is that you find it difficult to keep your mind focused and concentrated for very long you may want to try taking a “media fast” for 3 days and then come back to this and try again. One of the biggest problems with trying to focus our minds on a single train of thought for extended periods of time is that our phone apps, movies, and other forms of media are constantly programming the brain to constantly be “switching channels”. Taking a 3 day fast from the influence of media can often help the brain become more focused and able to concentrate for longer periods of time.

4) If media influence is not a factor for you but you still find yourself having difficulty concentrating, there are certain essential oils that can help boost mental clarity, focus, and concentration; cloves, nutmeg, lemon, and clary sage are among my favorite essential oils to use for this purpose.

Finally

Remember that this really is an exercise, even if you do not feel immediate results, this mental exercise works directly with your body’s energy levels even without your body being physically active. But if you have done this exercise well and still find it to be rather easy for you, then you may be ready for a more strenuous exercise. The exercise of “Balancing the Energy Field Through Confession” takes the energy workout to a whole other level. I want to caution you, though (especially if this is your first time doing these exercises), as with any new form of exercise you do not want to over exert yourself or take on too much at the beginning – it is always best to start small and work up to more intense levels over time.
